Training, qualifications and beyond

Training overview
Our club offers the full BSAC training programme, (link to BSAC) providing a structured framework for divers to progress at their own pace. Whether you are new to scuba diving or looking to advance your skills, you will find a welcoming community and expert guidance.

Entry-level course: Ocean DiverThe BSAC Ocean Diver course is the ideal starting point for beginners. This entry- level qualification equips you with essential skills to dive safely to a maximum depth of 20 metres, both in the UK and abroad. The minimum age for training is 12 years, provided a parent or guardian is part of the club.

Progressive skill development.
Our instructors teach Diving skills progressively, with each new skill building upon the last. Training combines theory(online), swimming pool sessions, open water skills, and continual practice, ensuring you develop your abilities safely and enjoyably.

Qualification grade
BSAC offers five internationally recognised diver grades, ranging from Ocean Diver to First Class Diver. All grades are delivered by our in-house instructor team, ensuring consistent quality and support throughout your training journey.

Beyond training: equipment and ongoing support.
As you progress, access to equipment becomes crucial. We recommend that beginners buy basic gear—mask, fins, and snorkel—when starting Ocean Diver training.
For UK diving, a semi-dry wetsuit or, more commonly, a drysuit is the preference. We have a limited number of Drysuits available for members, and they can be hired from most dive shops. Most divers buy their own full set of gear after qualifying.
It is important to ensure that all diving equipment is regularly serviced for safety and reliability, and we can help members with this, through our links with service centres.
